THEME: POWER

Hebrews 1:1-4

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

INSIGHT

-God spoke to us through the prophets in the Old Testament about Jesus Christ, His Son Who died for the sins of the world so that through His blood we may be set free from eternal condemnation (1 Jn 1:7). There is power in the blood of Jesus. Through this power, we should confess our sins freely knowing that Christ hears us. This gives us a better appreciation for the works of Jesus on the cross and we grow in love for Him and for others. When we were without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world, Christ brought us near by His blood (Eph 2:12-13). He bore our sins in His own body on the tree that we having died to sin, might live for righteousness and obtain healing by His stripes (I Pet 2:24). There is therefore no condemnation then to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit (Rom 8:1), for we have been crucified with Him and it is no longer we who live, but Christ lives in us (Gal 2:20). Through His blood then, Jesus reconciled all things to Himself (Col 1:20) giving us hope that He may save us from wrath (Rom 5:9). As we partake of His body and blood through the holy communion, we have life and life in abundance (Jn 6:53). Through His blood, Jesus has defeated the works of the enemy (Rev 12:11) and has made us kings and priests that we may rule in the earth (Rev 1:5). We are therefore called to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Heb 4:16). .
