THEME: GOD QUALIFIES THE UNQUALIFIED

1 Samuel 16:10-13 NKJV

Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”

INSIGHT

David the shepherd boy was forgotten; he was the last born and considered the least in his family. When Samuel came to anoint the sons of Jesse, David was no where to be found, for he was tending for his father’s sheep. Samuel chose Eliab in his heart because of his physical appearance, but the Lord had chosen David, a man after God’s own heart. David was anointed as king of Israel and the Holy Spirit fell upon him. He was a strong leader, a brave ruler and trusted in God fully. We are reminded that even though we may feel as if we are forgotten in our personal progression, at the workplace, in our families and places of influence, the Lord has not forgotten us. Let us remember to seek the Lord always and wait on Him for at His appointed time and season we shall be transit from one level to the next, for the glory of God.
