Deuteronomy 11:10-11 For the land which you go to possess is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you... VEGETABLE

Deuteronomy 11:10-11 For the land which you go to possess is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and watered it by foot, as a vegetable garden; but the land which you cross over to possess

INSIGHT -In Hebrew, vegetable is written as zeroa & it means herbiage, greenery, foliage -The Israelites were given the 10 commandments & instructed to keep it, so that they may inherit Canaan which was more fertile than Egypt. It was not limited to a vegetable garden watered by man but would have rain sufficient for themselves & their livestock.

PRAYER Bless our land Oh Lord, that the fruit which comes from it may be of benefit to us & our livestock. May we overcome the slavery of sin by Your help & live by Your grace always. Amen

1 Kings 21:1-2 And it came to pass after these things that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. So Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is near, next to my house; and for it I will give you a vineyard better than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”

INSIGHT -Naboth knew the value of his inheritance & could not exchange it for anything. By giving him a better vineyard or money, king Ahab would have succeeded in destroying Naboths identity in his lineage & destroy his relationship with God. He was later killed for blasphemy as plotted by Jezebel, king Ahab’s wife for her husband wanted a vegetable garden.

PRAYER May we be guided by You, Lord in all our decision making, that we may perceive the intensions of those around us. Protect us & deliver us from all evil. Amen

Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred.

INSIGHT -2 Cor 9:7, God loves a cheerful giver. Mark 12:31, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
– King Solomon says love surpasses all delicacies (everything).

PRAYER Thank You Father for the love You have for us. Instill the same love in us, so that we may love You & our neighbour as ourselves. May we be able to give from the heart, be it little or plenty. Amen

Daniel 1:15-16 And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies. Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.

INSIGHT -Daniel, Shadrack, Meshack & Abed-Nego refrained from defiling themselves with the king Nebukadnezzar’s delicacies & chose to take vegetables & water. After 10 days they appeared better & fatter than the other young men. Disregarding the fact that proteins are body building foods, they trusted in God in that matter.

PRAYER May we refrain from anything destructive to our bodies through Your help, Lord. That we may always seek You first in all things including our health. Amen

Romans 14:2-3 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.

INSIGHT -We all have varied levels of faith in different areas of life including food. Health problems could also deter one from eating certain foods. Paul writes that we should not despise or judge one another.

PRAYER We entrust our health to You, Oh Lord. As we eat all foods, may it be of benefit to our bodies. Heal all those who are sick in our families & the community. Amen

Our Father who at in heaven, Hallowed be thy name….
