THEME: UNITY

John‬ ‭17:22-23‬ ‭‬‬‬‬

‭‭‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one I in them and you in me so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”‬‬‬‬

INSIGHT
-Christ receives glory & honour always for He won the battle against sin & death that we may remain liberated with Him in love. He bestows unto us unending love which yields patience, kindness, does not envy nor boast; that we may be united in perfect unity with Him.

SUMMARY
-Unity in Hebrew is written chabar as means oneness, solidarity, harmony, union or togetherness. It is also the state of being joined together in agreement.
-God has always desired that we dwell together in unity & calls this good & pleasant (Ps‬ ‭133:1‬). During ‭the ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬construction of the Tower of Babel, all people were united as one & spoke one language. God confirms that; when people are united & sort to do something, it cannot be withheld from them (Gen 11:6‬). ‭Jesus also reminds us in Mat ‭18:19-20‬; to pray in agreement & He will fulfill our petitions for where two or three are gathered together in His name, He is present with us. King Hezekiah knew the importance of unity & brought back worship of God in Israel with the reintroduction of the Passover & feast of unleavened bread which was celebrated for 7 days (2 Chr‬ ‭30:12-13).‬ This was a picture of Christ Who became our Passover Lamb for the remission of our sins & bread of life that we may partake of Him Who gives us strength & eternal life. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬Jesus upheld the highest form of unity by staying close to His disciples while on earth & came back after resurrection so that we may believe.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ The church in Acts also lived together as one community of believers bearing the grace of God & even supported one another financially. Those who owned property sold it & brought the proceeds before the Apostles who distributed it to them according to each ones needs (Acts 4:33-35). He has also called us to bear one another’s burdens, which fulfils the law of Christ (Gal 6:2‬). He calls us to bear one another in humility, patience & love; given to us by the Holy Spirit. He tells us that it is each & everyone’s responsibility to maintain peace & unity in the society, for He is the God of peace, Jesus is the Prince of peace & the Holy Spirit gives us the fruit of peace so that through the same peace we may be called sons of God. We are united by one God in one body of Christ by one faith, one baptism for God is all, over all & in all, our Creator, the Beginning & the End (Eph 4:2-7). God purchased grace for us through His death & resurrection; that we may live in righteousness & prosperity, & remain liberated to Him Who is our only hope for His unmerited favour is sufficient for us all. He calls us to put on love over all virtues which binds them all together in perfect unity (Col 3:14). God is love & fills us with the same love so that we may dwell in unity with others in the society. The love of God also mounds our thoughts, speech & actions to make us Christ-like that we may do to others as we would want them to do unto us. Christ has also united us with God as one family for we are His heirs through His precious blood shed for us on the cross which makes us righteous according to the promise. God calls us to live in unity in our churches, families, society, nation, world, & oneness in holding fast faith & truth in Christ Jesus.
