THEME: FAITH AND WORK

Ephesians 2:8-10 NIV

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

INSIGHT

-The unmerited favor of God imparts upon us His loving kindness and forgiving love. Through sin God’s wrath came but by faith we have obtained His grace and forgiveness of sins. No human effort can therefore contribute to our salvation but it is a gracious gift from God and not by works of the law. None can then take credit for the gift of salvation by legalistic means, but all honor belongs to God. God has created each one of us for a purpose and with the salvation power, we are charged with the right energy and correct trajectory to take new territories and become victorious in every work.

SUMMARY

Faith in Hebrew is written as emunah which means to wait or believe. Work in Hebrew is written as peullah and it is translated as to labor, recompense or reward. Hebrews eleven (11) exposes the hero’s of faith and their achievements that they obtained through their work. Abraham the father of faith obeyed God and when he moved to a land which he did not know, he received an inheritance for himself and us his descendants. By faith Sarah received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. God instructed Abraham again to go and sacrifice his son and he did not hesitate but obeyed exercising his faith by works and thus it was accounted to him for righteousness (Hebrews 11:8-19). The call to obedience is for everyone since whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Whoever sows to the flesh reaps of the flesh but he who sows to the spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life (Galatians 6:7-10). Obedience is the work that we put in having decided to look to Jesus and follow Him alone with a sharp focus on His word, then in due season we reap the benefits. Our faith also has to be accompanied by works of love by giving those in need for faith without works is dead (James 2:14-22).

PRAYER

We appreciate You dear Lord Jesus for loving us and for Your grace upon our lives. We thank You for showing us Your love and while we were still sinners, You died for us. Thank You for the gift of salvation and for Your everlasting love. Thank You Holy Spirit for indwelling in us and abiding with us. May Your hand of mercy and love reach us at our points of need. May You dear Lord Jesus establish us in faith that we may persevere and overcome every temptation and hardship for the glory and honor of Your name. May You bless us and keep us. May You shine Your face towards us and be gracious unto us. May You show Your countenance unto us and give us peace. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us now and forevermore. Amen.
