THEME: WISDOM
Job 1:1-5 NIV
“In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. He had seven sons and three daughters, and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East. His sons used to hold feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.”
INSIGHT
-Job was a wise and upright man who feared the Lord and shunned from evil. According to Proverbs 3:7 we are told that, “do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.” Job was a blameless man, he offered sacrifices for his children every morning lest they sinned against God or cursed Him with their hearts. He feared God and at the same time feared sin. When he lost his livestock, children, property and became Ill, he did not curse God even as his wife advised him. He was a wise and discerning man; he did not question God and the Lord restored to him double what he had lost. We are called to be like Job, wise and dwell in the fear and presence of God, seeking God’s mercy and absolution where we have gone astray together with our children/ families.
PRAYER
Lord You are awesome in wonder and filled with mercy and kindness, may You have mercy on us and the entire world. We have sinned and fallen short of Your forgive us and help us to forgive those who offend us. Create in us clean hearts Lord and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Your word says that Your foolishness is wiser than our wisdom, and Your weakness is stronger than our strength. May You fill us with Your wisdom and transform us to be more like You dear Jesus. May You cover us with Your precious blood and hedge of fire. May You fight for our every battle dear Jesus for the battle belongs to You. May You fight for Israel for the battle belongs to You. Our Father who art in heaven; hallowed be Your name; Your Kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptations but deliver us from evil; for thine is the Kingdom the power and the glory; forever and ever. Amen
