THEME: DON’T LOSE HOPE
Mark 5:25-34 NIV
“And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ” But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
INSIGHT
-The story of the woman who suffered the issue of blood is a revelation of disease can distract and injure people. The woman probably had a menstrual disorder that took place for twelve years. Possibly she suffered emotional distress and was shunned by many since anyone who came into contact with her was made ceremonially unclean (Leviticus 15:25-33). When she sort for help from consultants, she spent a lot of money but unfortunately her illness could not go away. Among us are many who suffer chronic illnesses like cancer, HIV and Aids, high blood pressure, diabetes, cerebral palsy, stroke, blood disorders just like we have read in the main text. When she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment by faith, she was made clean for power went out of Him. Jesus publicly proclaimed the power of faith and assured her of total healing through His peace and deliverance from suffering. Let us not loose hope but go to Jesus in prayer and touch the hem of His garment through faith and we will be completely healed.
SUMMARY
Hope and faith are not far fetched and the later precipitates the former. We have been justified through faith and have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand and boast in the hope of the glory of God (Romans 5:1-2). Jesus Christ is our hope of salvation and eternal joy. When we were aliens from the commonwealth and strangers from the covenant of promise, having no hope and without God in the world, Christ brought us near by His blood (Ephesians 2:11-13). Even though we have these realities with us and within us, some have lost hope. Many have lost hope with our leadership, economy, and nation. As the Lord healed the nation of Samaria from high food prices caused by severe drought, He will heal our economy (2 Kings 6:24-31). Others have lost hope in their financial progression, they no longer can afford a meal a day and some sleep hungry with their families. With more than 38% below living poverty level, most cannot afford school fees, house rent and other incidentals. Like Peter was instructed to cast his nets into the deep, and fetch a multitude of fish, let us believe in Jesus who provides supernaturally without interference by times, environment or the economic situation (Luke 5:4-9 ). Some are sick, addicted, depressed and have been ailing for a long time like the woman with the issue of blood. Many have lost hope lying on their hospital beds or at home, waiting to die. God is calling to touch the hem of His garment by our faith and we will be totally healed. Many are waiting on God for spouses and some eager to be blesses with children. Abraham the father of faith together with his wife Sarah, waited on God for the son of the promise until their old age. They did not loose heart but trusted in God ability to deliver His promise and capacity perform the impossible (Genesis 21:1-7). God is calling us to pray and rely on Him for everything and He will deliver us from every adverse situation. God is also calling us to ask and we shall receive, seek and we will find, knock and the door will be opened to us, for He is faithful to keep His promise. God has a purpose for our lives and that’s why we are alive today. He has a plan to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Therefore let us not loose hope nor be discouraged.
