“And Abraham called the name of the place, The- LORD -Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.” Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son — blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.”
-Mountain in Hebrew is written as Har & it means a large landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a specific area, usually steeper than a hill. According to geological studies; mountains are form through tectonic forces or volcanism. The three main types of mountains are; volcanic, fold & block.
-Abraham was faithful to God & willing to sacrifice his son Isaac after waiting for 100 years. This was the highest form of sacrifice Abraham could offer due to the love he had for Isaac his only son born to Sarah. God instructed Abraham to go to the mount Moriah where David later build the temple, to make the sacrifice. This mountain is commonly known today as the temple mount. The sacrifice was a picture of God offering His only Son Jesus at the mountain called Calvary, Golgotha or place of skull for the sake of all mankind. The promise that Abraham received was sealed by circumcision which Christ upgraded to circumcision of our heart. By the power of the blood of Jesus we have faith that we are partakers of His promises, blessings & take possession of the gates of our enemies.
You are Holy Lord & mighty above above all creation. Father You have sworn by Yourself that the word that comes out of Your mouth in righteousness shall not return. Remember Your covenant Lord that You bless us, multiply us & our descendants that we may also possess the gates of our enemies. We thank You for dying on the cross for us Father; that we may have victory over all sicknesses & obstacles that come our way. Just like Abraham called the name of the place; the Lord will provide, we know Jehovah Jireh that You will provide for all our needs by faith. Amen
“Then the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. And the LORD said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people, lest they break through to gaze at the LORD, and many of them perish.”
-Before the 10 commandments were administered to the people through Moses, God revealed Himself at the top of mount Sinai through smoke & thunder during Sabbath. It was punishable by death for anyone to touch the foot of the mountain & only consecrated priest were allowed. We see in Matthew 28:1, during sabbath Christ resurrected that we become alive in Him. Through His blood we have been brought near to God that we may partake of His grace & truth by the help of the Holy Spirit (Eph 2:13).
You are Holy Oh Lord the fountain of all holiness. Many are the times we have fallen short of Your glory forgive us our sins & those of the whole world. Though our sins are as red as crimson You have made them as white as wool, we thank You. Have mercy on all our school going children, heal all the sick Father, be with all who are unemployed so that they may secure jobs, bless the work of our hands Father that we may bear much fruit, bless all those who are unmarried that they may find their spouses, be all those who are facing financial difficulties, lead us in our purposes & guide all our leaders in Your will Lord. All our hope is in You Father; wipe away our tears. All our trust is in You Lord; strength us when we are weak. All our faith is in You Father; answer our prayer. Amen
“Sing, O heavens! Be joyful, O earth! And break out in singing, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, And will have mercy on His afflicted.”
-Praise of the most high God has been personified; painting a picture of His limitless abilities, commanding even the mountains to sing praises to Him. The psalmist in Psalm 98:8; paints the same picture where the rivers clap their hands & mountains sing together for joy to the Lord. Creation therefore unites in joy; celebrating Gods’ marvellous works eagerly awaiting the manifestation of sons (Rom 8:19). God also displays His mercy upon the afflicted & compassion upon His sons for His righteousness sake.
You are worthy of all glory, honor & praise Lord; for Your merciful love upon all the universe. The beauty & splendor of all creation rightfully brings joyful shouts of praise to You. Have mercy on all the sick, suffering, orphans, widows, fatherless & all Your sons Lord & fulfill the desires of our hearts. Remember all the covenants sealed for us through Your Son Jesus & those You continue to share with us each day; that You bring them to pass in our lives for Your righteousness sake. We give You all the glory & honor Lord; now & forever. Amen
“Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”
-The Samaritan woman alleges that they used to worship on a mountain; probably mount Gerizim in Samaria where Jacobs well is located & Jews worshipped in Jerusalem. Mountains, trees & other physical features have over time been common places of worship all over the world. According to these worshipers beliefs; God dwells there. This notation attempts to place a limit to Gods’ omnipresent nature & causes doubt in ones mind on the existence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Apostle Paul in 2 Cor 1:21-22; reminds us to have faith in Christ Who has anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us & put His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee of what is to come. The act of worship to God can therefore be done anywhere & at anytime as one is guided by the Holy Spirit; in spirit & truth.
Jehovah Elohim; we thank You for Your Omnipresent nature which has given us the liberty to worship You from anywhere & at any time. Help us Holy Spirit to always worship You in spirit & in truth; & intercede for us in times when we do not know how to pray. Nothing can separate us from Your love everlasting Father, we praise Your name. Guide us today in all we do, provide for those who are starving & dying of hunger, protect all those who live in war torn areas & give shelter to all the displaced. Your love satisfies us every day, we thank You for all things. Amen
“So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
-Jesus emphasises on the importance of having faith as little as a mustard seed; one can achieve more that our thoughts can fathom. One can move actual mountains or any form of stumbling blocks in our lives with faith. Looking at the miracles Jesus performed, all the individuals that were impacted had faith. Let us continue to ask God for the gift of faith so that our lives may be transformed for the glory of His name.
-Mountain in Hebrew is written as Har & it means a large landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a specific area, usually steeper than a hill. According to geological studies; mountains are form through tectonic forces or volcanism & are classified into three main types; volcanic, fold & block.
-With great faith Abraham went to Mount Moriah as instructed by God to sacrifice his only son Isaac born to Sarah (Gen 22:14-17). This was a picture of God offering His only Son Jesus at the mountain called Calvary, Golgotha or place of skull for the sake of all mankind. The promises that Abraham received were sealed by circumcision which Christ upgraded to circumcision of our hearts. God later revealed Himself through smoke & thunder at mount Sinai during Sabbath & administered the 10 commandments to the people through Moses. The presence of God was then linked to mountains, trees & other physical features which became & still are common places of worship. The Samaritan woman reveals that they used to worship on a mountain; probably mount Gerizim where Jacob’s well was dug, while the Jews worshiped in the Jerusalem (John 4:20-23). Attributes of praise have also been linked to mountains as personified in Isaiah 49:13. Further, prayer remains key in our communion with God as we are reminded to pray without ceasing & that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groaning that cannot be uttered (Rom 8:26). We cannot therefore limit the presence of God to mountains for He is Omnipresent & dwells in our hearts that we may worship Him from anywhere & at anytime.
Holy & Almighty Father we call on You today with humility in our hearts. We ask that You increase our faith so that we may move all mountains that cause a threat in our lives, families, society & nation in Your mighty name Jesus. Help us to know You & love You more every day. All glory & praise belongs to You now & forever. Amen
