Numbers 1:2-3 “Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male individually, from twenty years old and above—all who are able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

INSIGHT -In Hebrew, census is written as sephar & it means numbering, enumeration -The census in Num 1:2, was conducted to establish the number of men fit for war against their enemies in Israel. Israel today means the church (Eph 5:22-33). Jesus gave us authority to trample on serpents & scopions (all obstacles) & over all power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).

PRAYER Guide & protect the security forces all over the world; Lord & restore peace in the war-torn countries. We thank You Father; for giving us authority over all obstacles & challenges in life & over all power of the enemy. We believe that nothing can hurt us because You abide in us. May we always be still that we may know that You are God. Amen

Numbers 3:15 “Number the children of Levi by their fathers’ houses, by their families; you shall number every male from a month old and above.”

INSIGHT -The tribe of Levi, the Levites were in charge of the tabanercle of meeting & were 22,000 in number.
-Another census was conducted on the first born’s of the children of Israel; 1 month of age (22,273) where the excess 273; were redeemed by 5 shekels each to Aaron & his sons (Num 3:46-48). -Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation (Col 1:15).

PRAYER Forgive us all our sins; Jesus. Bless Your servants who You called to serve in the church. Bring Your Word to remembrance in them; Holy Spirit that they may be led in wisdom & truth to strengthen the people. Amen

1 Chronicles 21:1-2 Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. So David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, “Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring the number of them to me that I may know it.”

INSIGHT -This census was purposed to number the army in Israel & Judah (2 Sam 24:9). -The Lord was angered by David’s decision & gave him 3 options for punishment (2 Sam 24:13). David chose 3 days of plague where 70,000 people died in Israel. The Lord was merciful & stopped the angel from further destruction.

PRAYER Give us the gift of discernment; Lord that we may always hear from You. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all evil. Guide us; Lord & especially our leaders in all their decisions that they may always do as You please. Amen

Ezra 2:1-2 Now these are the people of the province who came back from the captivity, of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his own city. Those who came with Zerubbabel were Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

INSIGHT -This census was carried out on the people who came back from captivity in Babylon under king Nebuchadnezzar. The number of people & their livestock had more than double as compared to the ones taken to exile. The above mentioned people were their leaders.

PRAYER Shower us with Your blessings Lord; that we may be fruitful in the land. Lead our hands in our assigned calling & direct us in all that we do. Amen

Luke 2:1-4 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,

INSIGHT -The census was important at the appointed time that the Messiah would be born in a safe place, Bethlehem the city of David. Joseph had to be obedient & supportive as a father to preserve the body of Jesus. Bethlehem means the house of bread & Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:48).

PRAYER May You be born in our hearts as we are one body in You; Jesus. Give us this day our daily bread & forgive us our trespasses. Your words are Spirit & life, may we always believe in You.
We glorify You & give You thanks. Amen

Our Father who at in heaven, Hallowed be thy name……

Please meditate on the theme, Census.
