THEME: CORRUPTION OF FLESH

Acts 2:30-31

“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.”

INSIGHT

-The Lord made a covenant with His chosen and sworn to His servant David. That His seed He will establish forever, and build up his throne to all generations (Psalm 89:3-4). This covenant referred to the Messiah who sits at the right hand of the throne of God from everlasting to everlasting. Christ is our Strong Tower and Shield, those who run to Him find comfort for their souls. Christ is our Redeemer and Salvation, He did not see corruption; but was undefiled and pure, so that we too may become like Him. He is our Resurrection and Life, we have sure hope of eternal life with Him. We are reminded to look to Christ, the author and finisher of our faith despite the challenges that we are faced with and when we call on His name, He will save us.

SUMMARY

Corruption of the flesh came to the world when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and man was alienated from God. God then saw that the corruption that was on the earth was great and regretted ever creating man and His heart was deeply troubled (Gen 6:5-6). He brought a great flood where all the people earth was wiped out except for Noah and his family for he was a righteous man. The corruption in Sodom and Gomorrah also displeased God and He destroyed the dwellers there by fire but Lot was saved since he was righteous. It is clear then that we are called to be righteous through our faith in Christ Jesus. We have sure hope that Christ is our Resurrection and Life and calls us to do His will. We have received the righteousness of God through the death and resurrection of Christ and if we believe in Him, we shall not die but to live to declare His goodness. Corruption of the flesh begins in the heart which according to the Bible is desperately wicked. Idolatry, deceitful lusts, lusts of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life have been stated as constituents of corruption. The Holy Spirit renews our minds to live in holiness and righteousness as He wills, and calls us to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, and our neighbours as ourselves. God also calls us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling for once we have been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, shared in the Holy Spirit, tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance it is a loss since we crucify the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace (Heb 6:4-6). The world has many opportunities and challenges and we cannot live without Jesus Christ in our hearts Who strengthens us, counsels us, heals our wounds, comforts us and gives us victory over all things. Let us therefore return to Christ with repentance, submitting our thoughts, hearts desires, our worries, anxieties and cares to Him for His love for us is unending.
