THEME: FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

“Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.”

INSIGHT
-As the number of disciples increased, they was need to provide for widows who had noone to care for them and this remained the church’s responsibility. This was the duty of the twelve which over time hindered the work of ministry and necessetated the need to appoint the seven, filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom to serve the widows in their daily distribution of food. They chose Stephen, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, and the apostles prayed and laid hands on them. We know that laying of hands has great Spiritual significance according to various scriptural references including; imparting spiritual gifts (Acts 8:17, 2 Timothy 1:6), commissioning to new responsibility (Numbers 27:23), confer blessings upon (Genesis 48:13-20, Mark 10:16), healing (Acts 28:8, Mark 1:41). Once we are filled with the Spirit, we are able to function effectively for the glory of God.
