THEME: LEADERSHIP AFTER GOD’S HEART
2 Samuel 11:4-5
“Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”
INSIGHT
-David was a great leader but he had a fair share of shortcomings. One evening as he was walking on his roof top, he saw Bathsheba bathing, and lusted for her. Although he had many wives, they did not satisfy his lust. The lusts of the flesh is not easily satisfied as it primarily causes rebellious assertions of self. 1 John 2:16 reminds us that, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Even though David sinned he repented. A leader after God’s hearts realizes his/her sinful nature and repents seeking God’s grace. 1 John 1:8-9 says that, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We are reminded to seek God’s mercy and grace always, as we repent our sins, and He is faithful to forgive us. We are also called to fear the Lord abs do what is right in His eyes. We are always reminded to seek after the love of God and do good, as we forgive one another just as Christ forgave us.
PRAYER
We come to Your throne of grace dear Jesus, that we may obtain grace and mercy to help us during this time of need. May You create in me a clean heart, Oh Lord and renew Your steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. We repent our sins, sins of our families, sins of our leaders, sins of our churches, and those of our nation, may You forgive us and wash us with Your precious blood merciful Savior. Our Father who art in heaven; hallowed be Your name; Your Kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptations but deliver us from evil; for thine is the Kingdom the power and the glory; forever and ever. Amen
Blessed Wednesday
