THEME: PRIDE PRECEDES DOWNFALL
Luke 12:16-21 NKJV
“Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
INSIGHT
–The parable of a rich man who put his trust in the goods that he had and did not acknowledge the blessing of the Lord is narrated. He thought in his heart and decided to destroy his bans and build bigger so that he may make merry by food and drinks. Like this rich man, many who have been endowed with riches and wealth tend to take pride in their own riches. Some do not see the value of God in their lives for they can buy everything that they need. In Habakkuk 2:4 we find the proud and unrighteous Babylonians who relied on their own wealth and accomplishments. God cautions that we should watch out and be on the guard against all kinds of greed for life does not consist in an abundance of possessions. God calls us to humble ourselves and trust in Him and we will be saved. God is the giver of all things, and all glory, honor and praise should be channeled to Him.
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus You are Good and Your mercies ensures forever. Lord You say in Your word that blessed are those who trust in You and have made You their hope and confidence. Father You have promised that they are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water, for they shall not be bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought but their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. May Your favor and grace of fruitfulness engulf us in Jesus name. Jesus You have said that the just shall live by faith and not by sight. May You teach us to live by faith in You and not by sight. May You provide for all our needs generously so that we will always have everything we need and plenty left over to share with others. You are faithful dear Lord Jesus, You are holy, You are righteous, we give You praise and adoration, and it is in Jesus name we pray. Amen
Blessed Wednesday
