THEME: THE SEA-SHORE
1 Kings 4:29-34
“God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. From all nations people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.”
-God gave king Solomon great and incomparable wisdom like sand on the seashore, after he sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings on the altar in Gibeon, and he requested for wisdom, and God increased him in wealth, honor and long life (1 kings 3:5-14). People from all the nations came to listen to him, from the East, probably Paddan Aram or Mesopotamia (Genesis 29:1) which was rich in literature, and from the west; probably Arabia (Jeremiah 49:28, Ezekiel 25:10) which was rich in trade. Egypt was not left out, having great wisdom in reading, writing, orator and administrative skills, where Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action (Acts 7:22). Queen of Sheba was also among those who went to listen to king Solomon’s wisdom, and there was no one greater in wisdom until Jesus came (Luke 11:31). Wisdom is supreme, and in all our getting we are called to get it (Proverbs 4:7). Like king Solomon who applied his great wisdom to govern God’s people, we are reminded to apply wisdom in our areas of influence, and become the best as each one is called; to accomplish our purpose, for the glory of God.
What can I do without You Lord. Where can I go without You. Who can I call apart from You. Where can I dwell apart from in You Holy Spirit. Fill my heart with Your grace. Fill our hearts with Your truth. Fill our hearts with You wisdom, we humbly ask You. We delight ourselves in You Jehovah our Father, give us the desires of our heart. We shall not fear, for You Lord are with us. We shall not be dismayed, for You are our God. You shall strengthen us and help us, for You are our Savior. You will uphold us with Your righteous right hand, You will never leave us nor forsake us. We thank You and praise Your holy name. Your wisdom Jesus stems from everlasting to everlasting, how great are You in all the heavens and the earth. May Your wisdom overflow in us, that we may accomplish all that You have called us to do for the glory of Your name. Strengthen our walk in You, for it is You Lord who works in us both to will and to work for Your good pleasure, we praise Your holy name. Thank You for the plans You have for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future. Thank You Jesus for loving us. All glory, honor, power, praise, wisdom and grace belongs to You, now and forever. Amen
