THEME: PERFECT
Matthew 19:20-22

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

INSIGHT

-There was a rich young man who asked Jesus the formula of having eternal life. Jesus told him to keep the commandments which apparently he had kept from his youth. The young man was very wealthy & the love of money was in his heart. Therefore, he did not have the money but the money had him; for he was not willing to share what he had with the needy. Timothy shares the same sentiments in 1 Tim 6:17-19 saying, “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life”. Jesus describes the poor as those who need food, water, clothes, shelter, prisoners & the sick (Mat 25:35-36).

SUMMARY

-The Lord created man to be holy & perfect in his walk with Him. He instructed the Israelites in holiness & gave them the law to govern their way of life. Part of our own constitutions have been drafted from these laws with consequences for non compliance. Jesus confirmed that the greatest commandment is the love of God & the second the love of neighbor which fulfill the law & the prophets.

-Our God is a God of justice & delights in perfect scales of measure in our work & businesses. When we work, we should work as if working for Him. He promises long life to them that are just in their dealings.

-The Lord will perfect that which concerns us for His mercy endures forever. His time is the best for He has great plans for us.

-Gods love is perfected in us when we love one another. Love reveals our Christ-like nature & reflects the image of God. God instructs us to love Him by keeping His word & to love our neighbor as ourselves; upholding forgiveness in our hearts.

PRAYER

Father, we thank You for Your graces & mercy upon our lives. This far we have seen Your hand. Help us to live in patience, humility & to willingly support the needy. May Your love abide in us to keep Your word & to forgive those who offend us. Help us to live in peace & unity with our fellow country men & to shun away from ethnic hatred & corruption. May we be perfect just as You are perfect. Amen

Blessed Weekend.
