Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.
-Israelites had gotten comfortable in Egypt despite their oppression. At some point they complained to Moses for lack of food in the wilderness & mentioned that they ate meat & bread to their fill while they were in Egypt (Exo 16:3). God led them through the wilderness even though it was a longer route lest they change their minds & went back to Egypt upon experiencing war in their fierce rivals territory, the Philistines. Scientists have attempted to explain human behaviour in occurrences of change using the cognitive appraisal theories. The human brain most times think of change as a threat to their comfort especially when they did not expect it & there is uncertainty of control. Comfort is self destructive since without change our lives seldom advance & our past success limits of next blessing when we get comfortable. In 1 Cor 10:13, we see that, no temptation has overtaken us for God is faithful & will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. A change of mind set is inevitable when are inclined to God. He establishes us in faith for He is faithful in all things.
We thank You Father for this far You have brought us. You have journeyed with us since we were born up to now, we praise You. Increase our faith so that we may adopt to the change You bestow unto us. May You help us to renew our minds & may Your blessings be evidenced in our lives, families, friends, neighbours & our country. All glory belong to You always. Amen
